Public Enemy

The real John Dillinger.

  1. Quite a bit less handsome then his cinematic counterpart, but even in this nearly century old photo the man's charisma comes bleeding through.

  3. I still think he's quite dashing. I did see it, I enjoyed it. How about yourself?

  4. I really enjoyed it. I may be a little biased since I am a huge nerd for historical fiction. I loved all the little bits of history they threw in there. Everything with J. Edgard Hoover was amazing and funny.

As far as the film itself, I felt it dragged in parts, and soared in others. There were some genuinely poignant moments. Like when that lady near the start of the film asks Dillinger to take her with him and the camera pulls out to reveal her dialapdated depression era home falling into disrepair. The gun fights were all amazing, no one makes fire arms seem as dangerous as they really are like Michael Mann.

Also it was refreshing to see my man Christian Bale in a role where he isn't growling. He was actually my favorite actor in the film. I liked his portrayal of a man trying to get John Dillinger, but also struggling with the public eye and the pressures of a maniac like J. Edgar Hoover breathing down his neck.

So, in short, I thought it was pretty solid!

  5. Yes, I know what you mean by "dragging on." It was overall a good film. John was definitely more glorified in the film. And yes, I think Christian Bale is amazing as well. I hate when he does that weird voice in Batman. It's quite awkward. I loved John's hat towards the end, the boat skimmer hat. I want one of my own!
